🌟 Hispanic Heritage Month Spotlight: Monica Marie Garcia 🎨

In celebration of Hispanic Heritage Month, the YWCA Corpus Christi is proud to spotlight Monica Marie Garcia, an award-winning muralist and artist born and raised in Corpus Christi, Texas.

“I have been painting for over 20 years and teaching for 16 years — literally painting the city! From murals and windows to painting classes and face painting, the community I live in is my canvas. I love being able to share my passion for color and art with my city.

My heritage is incredibly important to me. I am proud of the culture, traditions, and values my family has carried on and taught me, and I hope to continue passing them on to future generations — not only within my own family, but throughout my community.

I embrace my role as a leader and the opportunity to share my experiences and talents with people of all ages, from children to senior citizens. It’s how I connect with my community, give back, and show my love. Art and community are truly my love language.”

🚧 8 NEW BUILDINGS could transform the River Walk between downtown and Pearl.

A massive mixed-use project planned along Jones Avenue could bring hundreds of residences, offices, restaurants, shops and fitness space to nearly 6 acres beside Museum Reach.

And demolition of the old CPS Energy structures has already begun.

This could help fill one of the biggest gaps between downtown, the San Antonio Museum of Art and Pearl — turning a quieter stretch of the River Walk into a much more active urban district.

And here’s the wild part: this is separate from the new 10-building expansion being proposed at Pearl.
