The 2 bedroom cottage at 21 Humboldt Ave (behind the main Church) was once the Rectory of the Church in front (1405 San Anselmo Ave). This was home to Gary Fisher (inventor of the modern mountain bike), where he used the workshop space and worked with Charlie Kelly to create and promote his bike.

In 1979, avid bikers Gary Fisher and Charlie Kelly pooled their cash – $200 – and opened MountainBikes on the corner of San Anselmo Avenue and Center Boulevard, the first-ever business dedicated solely to building and selling what the two created out of personal necessity. In the process, they helped launch a worldwide phenomenon.

Baan Thai in San Anselmo is an absolute gem. Beautiful ambiance, incredible staff, amazing food, and portions big enough to keep you happy long after you leave.

While everything on the menu looked delicious, we started with the appetizer platter, and the chicken satay with peanut sauce was a standout. For entrees, the crispy pork belly and Thai garlic noodles were both unreal. Finished it off with fried banana and vanilla soft serve, plus Thai iced teas to tie it all together.

This is 100% a spot I’ll be coming back to again and again. A must-hit in San Anselmo, and easily the best Thai food in Marin.
