Prescribed Burn Planned Near Boggy Draw

The Dolores Ranger District is planning a prescribed burn in the Boggy Draw area off FS Road 527 (Boggy Loop Road), approximately 5 miles northeast of Dolores, beginning Sunday, April 19.

Crews plan to burn Units 25A–C, covering approximately 1,212 acres. Both aerial and hand ignitions will be used, with burning expected to take place over one to two days, depending on weather conditions and smoke limitations.

Residents and visitors in the area may see smoke during this time. Please use caution when traveling near the burn area and be mindful of fire personnel and equipment working along roadways.

All prescribed fire activity is dependent on favorable weather and conditions.

HB 1106 defeated — a win for housing providers and property rights.

The proposed Eviction Protections for Tenants (HB 1106) was defeated in committee following strong advocacy from the Colorado Association of REALTORS® and engagement from REALTORS® across the state.

As introduced, the bill would have made significant changes to Colorado’s eviction process, including:
• Establishing limits on the number of cases heard each day
• Expanding the grounds for delaying proceedings
• Removing the requirement for tenants to post a bond during appeals
• Restricting enforcement based on a broad definition of “inclement weather.”

These changes would have created delays, increased uncertainty, and added risk for housing providers and property owners.

CAR worked to ensure lawmakers understood the real-world impact of this proposal and the importance of maintaining a balanced and functional housing market.

We received a report yesterday regarding a local scam in Montezuma County. This occurred in the area of Road 29/30 and Road 29.6. A victim reported discovering a yellow tag on their front door, instructing them to call a number listed for “something important.” When the victim made the call, the person on the line claimed to be from their mortgage company, insisting that the victim had made incorrect payments and needed to arrange a “cash disbursement sale” to avoid foreclosure. However, when the victim contacted the actual mortgage company using their official number, they learned that their mortgage was in good standing, and the yellow tag did not originate from the company.

Remember, legitimate mortgage companies do not notify you of foreclosure by leaving tags at your home; they will send official correspondence or directly call you. If you encounter scams like this, you can report them to the Colorado Bureau of Investigation by visiting this link: https://cbi.colorado.gov/investigations/crime-scene-investigation/economic-crimes/identity-theft-fraud-and-cyber-crimes and clicking "Report Fraud or ID Theft Here."
