Happy Juneteenth! We are excited to host Linn Benton NAACP Prez Page at the YSC today to discuss the importance of this holiday! We also want to make sure our community shows up to the Linn Benton NAACP #1118 Juneteenth Homecoming Celebration TOMORROW, 6/20, from 2-7 at the Corvallis Community Center.

Juneteenth commemorates June 19, 1865, when news of emancipation finally reached enslaved people in Texas—more than two years after the Emancipation Proclamation had declared them free. Freedom had been granted on paper, but not yet experienced in reality. The delay serves as a powerful reminder that rights and opportunities are only meaningful when they are truly accessible to everyone.

The first Juneteenth celebrations, then called Jubilee Day, were organized by newly freed Black Americans who gathered to celebrate a freedom that had been hard won and long delayed. Even when they were denied access to public spaces, they created their own. Communities came together to honor resilience, hope, and the ongoing pursuit of justice.

More than 150 years later, activist Opal Lee helped bring national recognition to Juneteenth through years of advocacy and determination. At age 89, she began walking 2.5 miles at a time to symbolize the 2.5-year delay between emancipation and its enforcement in Texas. Her efforts contributed to Juneteenth becoming a federal holiday in 2021.

Juneteenth is both a celebration and a call to reflection. It invites us to consider what freedom, dignity, and belonging mean in our communities and in our daily work. It reminds us that progress often comes because ordinary people choose to act, advocate, and persist in the face of barriers.

Wrapping up another wonderful spring season of TOPSoccer (only 3 weeks left!). We're grateful for the opportunity to provide a fun, inclusive soccer experience for youth with disabilities. Seeing our players grow, build confidence, and enjoy the game is what makes this program so special. We can't do this without the volunteer buddies that show up week in and week out to support these athletes!

A huge thank-you to Program Director Salvador, Executive Director Kendra, Positive Youth Development Coordinator Zoe, and Outreach Program Manager Anna for their dedication, hard work, and commitment to making TOPSoccer a success.

With the summer season starting in July, it's just around the corner, and we can't wait to get back on the field with our amazing players and families! Get in touch with Salvador or shoot us a DM if you're interested in participating 💚

Thanks to our community partners, , , and . We are going to miss the Sports Park and we appreciate their support for the great game over the years.

Trinity's story is up on our YouTube now! We're so grateful to her for sharing about her experience accessing our Outreach Case Management services, and the positive turns that her life has taken since getting in touch with us. We can't do this work without all of you 💚

Thank you to the amazing business sponsors and generous donors who raised $60,000 at last month's event! This is an incredible 74% of our spring fundraising goal of $80,000.

You can help us close the gap by joining our "County Challenge." Between now and the end of June, follow Trinity's story, and help raise the remaining $10,000 from each county needed to continue these life-changing programs in our region!

Your contribution of any amount is appreciated and impactful. Thank you for strengthening this work!
