President Donald Trump has announced new tariffs that are expected to increase the cost of building homes in the U.S. While the worst-case scenario was avoided, home builders say the new rules will still drive up construction expenses.

These tariffs apply to a wide range of imported products—from appliances to flooring—and have raised the overall import tax rate to about 26%, up from 2.3% before Trump took office.

What it means for homebuyers ⬇️
Builders expect the tariffs to add around $9,200 to the cost of building a single home. When construction gets more expensive, builders typically have two choices: raise prices for buyers or accept lower profits. If profits shrink too much, they may slow down construction altogether.

These states are likely to be hit the hardest by higher building costs 📈
📍 Idaho: 40% of homes for sale are newly built
📍 North Carolina: 33%
📍 Delaware: 31%
📍 Utah and Nebraska: 28% each
