I know a lot of people are helping and donating and I would like to donate a few things as well. If you live in Cosby or Newport and are familiar with my gift shop, A Little Something Handmade, I have a few household items that are used but in good condition and clean, that I would like to donate to anyone in need.
Blankets, sheets, towels, pillows, bath rugs, a few quilts, etc.

I am not delivering. You would have to stop by the gift shop to look through it. I have things in bins. Being flooded out has prompted me to go through all I have and right now there is more than I will ever need again. Please if you are in need, call and then stop by.

I would like to share a very recent story that completely touched my heart and helped to reinforce the notion that there are still some very good people in this world.
As a cabin owner, we experience all the same things a normal everyday house would encounter due to wear and tear, misuse or just abuse. It is our responsibility to keep things well maintained and in working order. We are a two person business with many responsibilities. We depend on our guests to inform us of when something isn’t working right during their stay.
This recent experience gave me faith in people again.
Repeat Guests checked in on Sunday afternoon and about 1-2 hrs later I received a text message stating the ac wasn’t working. Although repeat guests, I was unaware of what they did for a living until this check in conversation.
These folks knowing what the problem was, offered to do everything they could to get unit working again. I had contacted a local heat/ ac guy and he came initially to see what the problem was. He then got his gal working on finding the part I needed. At the same time the guests, being in the business, started looking as well. These folks found the part and were willing to pick up for my guy to install. However, they took it upon them selves to replace the part and got the cabin cooling again.
The gratitude I feel is beyond words. I feel very blessed to accommodate such wonderful people that were willing to do all that, while on their vacation. Although I had it handled also, they made it happen!! 🤗 This business can be very stressful but, people like this and numerous others that have stayed with us have made this business venture, for the most part, enjoyable.
I would never ask a guest to fix any maintenance issue, but when they volunteer and know what they are doing, you can’t hardly say no to the help.

From all that I have been reading (some good some bad) I thought perhaps my two cents will matter so here goes:
People please use your common sense. This is very real and everyone and I mean everyone has to do their part in order for it to end.
Unless you are vitally important to everyone else and taking precautions to protect yourself, staying home is essential and not impossible.
All my cabins are empty because the people with good sense decided to reschedule later in the year. And I have refunded those that have asked. I am very easy to work with.
I’ve been reading a lot of comments from people that booked a vacation cabin and are not getting refunds. Well to those that are complaining and blaming VRBO or other booking agents....stop. They are not at fault. Each owner/manager has a cancellation policy. You are subject to those guidelines when booking your vacation. It is their decision to do what they can to help you rebook, cancel your reservation or refund your money. I would prefer that you reschedule so you can enjoy the vacation you intended to take at a later time.
Folks, I’ve done my part in helping those that have booked with me to reschedule and my gift shop is closed. I want to get back to business as usual as soon as possible so please be considerate, kind and giving in this unknown time. Everyone is being affected in one way or another. Please take a minute to think about that....it will take longer then a minute I guarantee it.
Be smart and stay well!!
