Around here, Dolly has never just been a famous name.

She’s one of ours.

A girl from the Smoky Mountains who showed the world that you can dream bigger than where you started without ever forgetting where you came from.

She carried these mountains with her everywhere she went — in her music, her stories, her generosity, her humor, and that unmistakable East Tennessee spirit.

And today, 9/25, Sevier County officially celebrates Dolly Parton Day. 💗

So maybe today we all take a page from Dolly’s book:

✨ Be kind.
✨ Help somebody when you can.
✨ Laugh a little louder.
✨ Dream a little bigger.

Cosby isn’t flashy.

It doesn’t need to be.

This is a place built on strong backs, deep roots, front porches, creek water, mountain roads, and people who know how to take care of their own.

Around here, neighbors still wave.
Folks notice when something isn’t right.
People show up when somebody needs help.
And the mountains have a way of reminding you that life doesn’t have to move quite so fast.

Cosby is a little wild.
A little stubborn.
A whole lot beautiful.

It’s not the side of the Smokies with the biggest signs or the brightest lights—and that’s exactly why we love it.

This community has grit.
It has history.
It has heart.

We want to hear your Smoky Mountain crime.

Have you ever…

Bought $40 worth of fudge and called it “souvenirs”?

Driven 45 minutes out of the way because you refused to admit you missed the turn?

Packed hiking boots and never once went hiking?

Screamed “BEAR!!!” only to realize it was a trash bag?

Spent half your vacation sitting on the porch doing absolutely nothing?

Said “we’re avoiding the touristy stuff” and then somehow ended up in a pancake house, buying a T-shirt and watching somebody make taffy?

I don’t know who needs to hear this, but Christmas is 100 DAYS AWAY.

ONE HUNDRED.

So basically, blink twice and you’ll be standing in Walmart at 9:47 p.m. on December 23rd fighting somebody’s aunt over the last decent gift bag. 😂

Summer is still out here acting like it pays rent, but Christmas is coming whether we’re emotionally prepared or not.

Mariah is warming up.
The Amazon driver is stretching.
Your bank account is already nervous.

And if you’re thinking about spending Christmas in the Smokies, this would probably be a fantastic time to stop “thinking about it” and actually book the cabin. 😂🎄🏔️

The calendar may say mid-September, but the river is still saying, “GET IN!”

Apparently summer wasn’t quite ready to pack its bags. This little September heat wave means there’s still plenty of time for swimming holes, creek days and cooling off in the Smokies.

And wanna know the best part?

There are a whole lot fewer people fighting you for the good spots than there were in July.

It’s basically bonus summer… without the summer crowds. We’ll take it.

Come spend a few days on the adventure side of the Smokies while the water is still calling your name.

I cannot believe we are officially in the “ber” months, because the BEST time of year is upon us! 🍂🏈

Football season. Leaves changing. Crisp mornings. Low humidity. All the good smells. Campfires and s’mores. And, of course, the beginning of all the holiday seasons.

Seriously… how do you not get excited about at least ONE thing on that list? 😂

If you’ve never experienced Tennessee in the fall, welp, plainly put—you’re missing out.

There is just something special about fall in the Smokies, and apparently most people already know it because our cabins are filling up FAST.

So if you’ve been thinking about a fall mountain getaway but haven’t booked yet, now is the time. Don’t wait until everything is booked and you’re sitting at home watching everybody else’s Smoky Mountain pictures on Facebook. 😂

🍎 LABOR DAY WEEKEND, COSBY STYLE.

A long weekend in the mountains deserves something a little extra good… and since Carver’s Orchard is right down the road, we’re thinking apples. 😋

Grab a bag while you’re out exploring and bring them back to the cabin for this:

Easy Caramel Apple Cobbler

🍎 5–6 apples, peeled and sliced
🤎 ½ cup brown sugar
✨ 1 tsp cinnamon
🧈 ½ cup melted butter
🥣 1 cup self-rising flour
🥛 1 cup milk
🍚 1 cup sugar
🍯 Caramel sauce

Toss the apples with the brown sugar and cinnamon.

Pour the melted butter into a baking dish. Mix the flour, sugar and milk together, then pour the batter over the butter. Don’t stir!

Spoon the apples over the top and bake at 350° for about 40–45 minutes, until golden and bubbly.

Then comes the important part…

Vanilla ice cream.
Warm caramel drizzle.
Absolutely no regrets. 😂

You know that moment on a Smoky Mountain trip when everybody finally quits asking, “What are we doing next?” 😂

The shoes come off.
The phones get put down.
Somebody settles in on the porch.
And suddenly… nobody is in a hurry anymore.

That’s the good stuff. ❤️

Come hike the trails. Chase waterfalls. Explore Cosby. Do all the things.

But leave a little room in the itinerary for a warm drink, a mountain sunset, and doing absolutely nothing at all.

Wildwood would like to express our heartfelt condolences to the family and friends of Dolly Parton. Dolly proved how much just one person could influence and change the world. She lived generously, humbly, kindly, and lovingly, with lots of humor, grace, and integrity. She showed the world that no dream was too big. She inspired people all over the world. She never forgot her roots and poured into the community financially and emotionally. She showed up. Always.

She was one of the special ones, and though she inspired many of us to be better and do better, there will never be another like her.

I am honored and humbled to have grown up in this community—her community. She represented East Tennessee well, and what a life she lived.

Thank you, Dolly, for all you did and all you gave. Thank you for showing us what it looks like to truly love like Jesus.

Rest well, Dolly.

You may have heard Cosby called the Adventure Side of the Smokies…

Turns out, that adventurous streak is nothing new. 😂🥃

Long before the hiking, rafting and mountain getaways, Cosby was known for a different kind of adventure. It was once called the “Moonshine Capital of the World.”

Plenty of woods. Plenty of backroads. Plenty of people who apparently didn’t care much for being told what they could and couldn’t make. 😂

So yes, Cosby has changed a little over the years…

But the adventurous spirit? That part stuck around. 😉
