Congress is on the verge of passing the 21st Century Road to Housing Act after the Senate voted 87-8 Tuesday night to advance the House's amended version of the bill. The 381-page bill includes 45 provisions aimed at expanding housing supply, cutting regulatory red tape, banning large institutional investors from the housing market, and updating the Community Development Block Grant program.

The Federal Reserve held its benchmark interest rate steady in the range of 3.5% to 3.75% at new Chairman Kevin Warsh's first meeting, as inflation hitting a three-year high of 4.2% took any prospect of a rate cut off the table. Warsh, who has already signaled a shift toward less public guidance and fewer forward projections, will be closely watched for how he steers the central bank away from the communication-heavy Powell era.
