Young professionals and local nonprofits came together for the second annual Speed Connection, presented by the St. Tammany Chamber of Commerce’s Northshore Young Professionals and the Northshore Community Foundation.

The fast-paced event gave young professionals an opportunity to meet representatives from 27 local nonprofits, learn more about their missions and discover ways to get involved through volunteering, nonprofit board service and supporting organizations through their workplaces and businesses. From one conversation to the next, Speed Connection showed the many ways young professionals can make a difference on the Northshore.

Today is Constitution Day — a day to recognize the signing of the U.S. Constitution on September 17, 1787. Nearly 239 years later, understanding civics and being involved in our communities remain important.

That’s one reason our Chamber was proud to host the 2026 National Civics Bee Regional Competition in Covington last May. The annual, nonpartisan competition gives middle school students an opportunity to strengthen their knowledge of civics, share ideas for improving their communities and put their civic knowledge into action.

We’re looking forward to hosting the National Civics Bee again in 2027 and continuing to encourage the next generation to learn about civics and get involved in their communities.
