A common guideline lenders use is the 28% rule — meaning your monthly housing expenses should ideally stay at or below 28% of your gross monthly income.

That includes:

✔️ Property taxes
✔️ Homeowners insurance
✔️ HOA fees (if applicable)

Example:
If a household earns $8,000/month before taxes, their recommended max housing budget would be:

0.28 \times 8000 = 2240

➡️ About $2,240/month toward housing expenses.
