đ Rachelâs Cranston Finds: Cranston History Edition
Have you ever driven down Narragansett Boulevard in Cranston and wondered what this sculpture is?
At the corner of Narragansett Boulevard and Sefton Drive in Edgewood, youâll find the End of the Line Memorial, a tribute to the streetcar system that once connected Cranston residents to Downtown Providence. From the late 1800s through the mid-1900s, trolleys carried workers, shoppers, and families from Edgewood and Pawtuxet Village to Providence.
When roadwork uncovered pieces of the original trolley tracks in 2017, a section was preserved and transformed into this memorial, giving us a glimpse into Cranstonâs past.
Itâs easy to drive right by, but itâs one of those hidden pieces of Rhode Island history that tells the story of how neighborhoods like Edgewood and Pawtuxet grew into the communities we know today.
