10 Things Every Buyer Should Know Before Buying a Home
Before you start house-hunting, here are a few things that can make your journey smoother and less stressful:
1️⃣ Get pre-approved, not just pre-qualified. It shows sellers you’re serious and helps you know your real budget.
2️⃣ Don’t make big purchases or open new credit lines before closing, it can affect your loan approval.
3️⃣ Understand your “all-in” costs. It’s more than the down payment, think insurance, inspections, and closing costs.
4️⃣ Know what you need vs. what you want. A clear list keeps you focused.
5️⃣ Research the neighborhood. Commute times, schools, and lifestyle matter as much as the house itself.
6️⃣ Get a home inspection. Always. Even on new builds. 🗣️ 🗣️ 🗣️
7️⃣ Ask about the age of the big systems like roof, HVAC, and water heater, they can be costly surprises later.
8️⃣ Look past the paint. Cosmetic fixes are easy; layout and structure are not.
9️⃣ Work with a Realtor you trust. Someone who listens, explains, and protects your best interests (👋 that’s me DUH!).
🔟 Take your time. It’s one of the biggest decisions of your life it’s okay to go at your own pace.
💙 Buying a home is exciting but being informed makes it empowering.
