While the concept of remote control goes back even earlier, real evolution happened over decades. In the 1950s, Zenith’s “Lazy Bone” cable remote laid the groundwork — then came the wireless Flash-Matic in 1955, and later the Space Command in 1956 using ultrasonic signals.
By the 1970s, remotes were packing more buttons, better ergonomics, and evolving functions — setting the stage for the universal remotes that came later.
