McKinney is about to make a big bet.
Tuesday night, City Council votes on roughly 300 acres of city owned land that could become a sports, retail and entertainment complex called Project Kepler. There is already a million dollars of design money in escrow, so this is further along than a rumor.
Real talk, I am torn on it. I love sports, so part of me is excited. But traffic is half the reason I live at the lake, and projects like this bring plenty of it.
Here is what I know for sure. Something this size moves more than traffic. It moves jobs, and over time it moves home values on the streets around it. Some neighborhoods win big. Some just get the congestion.
Nothing is final yet. Tuesday is the vote to watch, and once we know the result I will break down which areas stand to gain the most.
What do you think, does McKinney need a complex like this?
