It’s been a week since the derecho blew through The Region. For days now, we’ve been reaching out to our clients across the area, and one thing is clear: so many of you are exhausted, frustrated, and overwhelmed.
For some, getting back to normal isn’t going to happen quickly, but please know you don’t have to figure it out alone. Here are key recovery tips and resources to help:
📋 REPORT DAMAGE (DO THIS FIRST)
Indiana 211: Call 866-211-9966 or visit on.in.gov/IN-211
Open to Lake, LaPorte, Newton & Porter residents. Reporting proves to agencies that NWI needs help. Report even small damage!
🛑 PROTECT YOURSELF FROM SCAMS
The "storm chasers" are already out, here’s some steps to protect yourself against scams:
• Photo/video all damage BEFORE clean-up.
• Get written quotes, verify insurance, and NEVER pay in full upfront.
• Report fraud/price-gouging to IN AG: 1-800-382-5516
🥫 FOOD & ESSENTIALS
• SNAP Replacement Benefits: in.gov/fssa/dfr/snap-food-assistance
• Food Bank: foodbanknwi.org
• IN Disaster Relief: app.smartsheet.com/b/form/1ff14bd335c44c50bae1978f4953fbcd
Or simply dial 211. It’s free, available 24/7, and a real person will guide you to local support.
