CITY OF GARY OPERATIONS UPDATE: WEATHER AND TRAVEL ADVISORY
Due to continued snowfall accumulation and projected wind chill temperatures remaining below zero, the City of Gary is taking proactive steps to ensure the safety of its workforce.
CITY OPERATIONS UPDATE: In alignment with statewide emergency measures:
• Monday, January 26th, only ESSENTIAL CITY WORKERS will be in operation.
• City buildings will be closed to the public.
• We are prioritizing the safety of our employees while maintaining critical city functions.
• City staff will be taking calls and accessible via phone and email.
WEATHER ALERT & TRAVEL WARNING
• Conditions: Snowfall is continuing to grow across the region, accompanied by dangerous sub-zero windchills.
• Travel Status: A TRAVEL WARNING remains in effect. Travel is restricted to emergency management, public safety, and essential personnel.
• Residents: Please refrain from travel to allow crews to execute emergency snow removal plans safely.
• Travel Impact: Road conditions are currently hazardous. Travel along I-80/94, I-90 (Toll Road), and I-65 will be very difficult through the early evening.
REPORTING & ASSISTANCE For non-emergency issues, please report them via the Gary 311 App. This enables our teams to efficiently track and address specific hazards.
