It’s hard not to have mixed feelings this time of year. I love fall, but seeing the last days of summer tick off the calendar before the kids go back to school & the temps cooling down leaves me longing for more time! 🍁

I have been trying out my Kindle and, although I wanted to hate it, I actually love it! I still really enjoy a physical, paper book, but the convenience and ease of the Kindle has been so nice! I need all the tips & tricks from my fellow readers so I can make the most out of my Kindle Unlimited subscription & Libby! 📚

Speaking of books, our is officially repaired & back up and running! My husband did an incredible job fixing her up (she had lots of rot & carpenter ant damage) & really nailed the vision. If you are in the area, we would love for you to stop by and enjoy! The library is in Lakewood at the corner of Farrell & Bard (by the pond). Take a book, leave a book! 📕

We kicked off the changing of the seasons at the opening of . The corn maze theme this year is Dolly Parton, created well before her passing (RIP Queen Dolly). We love the apples & apple cider donuts. There are SO many activities for all ages but a Countryman favorite are the giant bubbles & the corn barn. I can’t deny that it’s been such a strange year since the passing of our sweet Sidney last year. 🐶 Our home has been filled with at lease one dog for 17 years (and many years three)! After so much time, I’m starting to get the itch for pups again. We are partial to pits but will absolutely adopt based on feels vs breeds. Of course, I peruse all of the local shelters but if anyone has any leads on rescue puppy litters, please keep me in mind.

Summer is flying by and I feel compelled to try to squeeze in all the warm weather activities. We have yet to get to Waterworks with the kids, definitely need a few more morning hikes, break in the slip-and-slide and some sunset bonfires. 💦👙🥾🏃‍♀️🌅🔥

I made a big change in July. Not to pull a Britney Spears circa 2007 (IYKYK) but I did do a major chop of my hair. It was totally impulsive (not my style) and was not previously discussed with anyone other than my hairdresser (thanks, Jen of Serenestudiowdstk). It was the most freeing thing to cut 6+ inches off, as I haven’t had short hair since I was 10. Highly recommend. 💇‍♀️

My love of reading has lead me to a desire for a new hobby and I’m so stoked to see it come together. I have been pining for my own littlefreelibrary and I polled my IG to see if anyone had any leads for some within the community that need a little love and could stand to be adopted. As per usual, my tribe did not let me down! I have one that I am on the works of approval to adopt and restore to her former glory! Stay tuned for location, before & afters and updates! I’m also looking to keep it very well stocked so I will be on the hunt for some donations and inexpensive book sales. 📚

Speaking of sales, my favorite kids' consignment shop, growingcentsofnstyle, has its online sale starting at the end of September, and I'm excited to purge some stuff and sell again! Seller registration opens this week, and I promise that if you have kids and live in the area, you won't want to miss this sale! 🛍️

I am excited to say that I may have found my new favorite date night restaurant in Antioch! 15Lakesprimesteakhouse is SO good. We went with a group and everyone’s food was amazing but the Bavette steak was heavenly. It truly felt like we were in the city again. the upscale, seasonal menu changes bi-weekly so I can’t wait to go back! 🍷🥩🍽️

Last but not least, the Countryman house is starting to gear up for the MOST wonderful time of the year…Chicago Bears season! 🧡💙🐻🏈💙🧡 We are so pumped to watch this team dominate! Keep an eye out for da Bears schedules coming your way. It pains me but I also have GB schedules for my cheesehead folks. Need a schedule? HMU

Summer came in hot & heavy! This heat wave has certainly put a damper on our outdoor plans, but we have spent more time watering the gardens, playing in the sprinkler & indulged in an extra ice cream cones than normal.

We did get a chance to sneak in to Three Oaks, Crystal Lake & do the trail around the Quarry. It is so nice! Paved & gravel, making stroller friendly. Lots of wildflowers & water views. 3.4 mile loop is worth the trip!

The Countryman crew has been obsessed with watching the World Cup over here. It’s been really exciting to watch the games and cheer on the US team! Unfortunately, their loss on Monday means we are now Vikings. 🇺🇸—>⚽️ —>🇳🇴

I am loving hearing about other people’s summer vacations! Where is your favorite summer destination? We love to camp but haven’t had the opportunity to take the camper out for its maiden voyage yet this season. We love the family friendly campgrounds like the Milton KOA & Caledonia Jellystone. There are always so many fun events & activities for the kids. Where else should we try?

We are planning our trip to Poland in September & getting excited for our big adventure! Anyone have tips for traveling with little kids? Been to Poland? Would love suggestion of must see spots! 🇵🇱

I have been reading lots of historical fiction, mostly about WWII since we will be in Poland soon. I loved Salt to the Sea & Tattooist of Auschwitz but it’s so hard to read about the heavy history of the war and holocaust. I need something light and easy for my next read. Time to dig through my ever growing TBR pile! 📖

Despite the heat, it is a great time of year to expand your gardens & add perennials (plants that come back every year) or split some of your mature plants. I can’t help myself, as I always have a wandering eye at the local nurseries. But it can be justified when some of the best local places start to put things on sale! Kolze’s has 20% off & Harm’s has 50% off now! I’m always happy to split and share plants from my own garden too so if you’re looking for something in particular LMK!

What month is it? Actually, What day is it?!? 😵‍💫Caleb is finally home from the hospital and we are together at last! 100% in the thick of newborn life! Settling into our new “normal”, soaking up every second of slow days, spring weather & simple life. Our older son, Cullen, is loving the candid audience to show all of his toys to & tell all of his stories. We are loving the family time & fantasizing about all the fun things we will do together in the future.

I managed to get some reading in & finished what is now one of my favorite books of all time: Theo of Golden. I highly recommend this book to ANYONE. It’s a sweet & easy read. It gives incredible perspective about other people‘s lives, stories, & restoring faith in humanity! Absolutely lives up to the hype! I also recently read The Correspondent which I loved & had such a unique style of writing. I’ve been on a roll with some really stellar five star reads lately!

My flower baskets are all planted & I hired my favorite landscaper, Valentin, to edge, w**d & mulch my gardens. No shame in my outsourcing game! Now I can sit back & enjoy the beauty with a baby in one arm & a coffee in another without feeling the urge to get out & clean up the yard. Let me know if you need my Landscaper‘s number. You won’t regret it! 🌺

Super excited to get back out into the real world to try some new local restaurants: Brathaus (Woodstock), Yummy Bowl (McHenry), and Tawan Thai (Woodstock). Have you been to any of these yet? Any other local places you love? 🍽️

Also pumped for the farmers market season to come into full swing. I may be biased, but the Woodstock farmers market is SO good! I am also a fan of a great farm stand. Always hard to pass up when I see one on a back, country road. Woodstock favorites of mine include Roisin Gardens for eggs & flowers and Bialas Farm for everything sourdough & amazing jam 🍓🍑 (they are adding additional local fare soon!).

Looking forward to cooling off at Waterworks & morning hikes at the McHenry Dam, beach days at Three Oaks or Fontana Beach, splash pad in Fox Lake & so much more with TWO side kicks in tow! Summer is here and we are HERE for it!
