I spent 25 years as a party chief here in the Pacific Northwest and was a adjunct professor at Lake Washingtion Institute of Technology for three year (until COVID shut the campus down) where I taught land surveying and trigonometry to Civil Engineering students who were also required to learn an introduction to land surveying.I also taught lessons at my work and encouraged fellow surveyors to learn and understand old school methods and to become more than button pushers. In my 25 years I have trained at least 35 novices and have encouraged each one of them to honor the profession of land surveying and to encourage them to understand what was going on inside their data collectors.
