Thinking about becoming a realtor? Here's the real talk nobody tells you upfront.

It's not 9-to-5. It's texts at 9pm, showings on Saturdays, and being available whenever your client needs you — because buying or selling a home is one of the biggest moments of their life, and they deserve that.

You don't get paid until you close. No closing, no paycheck. That's the trade-off for the freedom and the ceiling being basically unlimited.

Some months are incredible. Some months are dead quiet. You have to be okay with that rollercoaster and plan your finances like it.

You're not just selling houses — you're a therapist, a negotiator, a project manager, and sometimes just someone's calm voice during a stressful process.

But when you hand someone the keys to their first home? That feeling never gets old. That's the part that makes all of it worth it.

If you're thinking about getting into this business, know what you're signing up for — the freedom is real, but so is the work.

Someone asked me today how you actually become a Realtor in Texas, so I figured I’d share it here too because I’m sure other people have wondered.

It’s actually pretty straightforward.

You take 180 hours of real estate classes, apply with TREC, get your fingerprints/background check done, pass your state and national exam, and then find a broker to sponsor your license.

That’s pretty much how you get licensed.

Now actually making money as a Realtor… whole different conversation 😂

Getting your license teaches you enough to legally sell real estate. It does NOT teach you how to find clients, market yourself, run a business, problem solve with people, survive slow months or actually build a career out of it.

I’ve been doing this for over 7 years and there’s a LOT I wish somebody would’ve told me when I first started that I had to learn by DOING.

If enough people are interested, I’ll make another post about what I’d do if I had to start over today with zero clients. 🏡🔑

Never forget why you started. Because somewhere along the way, you’re going to get tired, discouraged, and question if it’s even worth it. That’s when you go back to your WHY. ♥️

One of mine is home.

Growing up, I never had that one house I could go back to and say, “I grew up here. These were my neighbors. This was home.”

Maybe that’s why having a home means so much more to me than just owning property.

If you can, find a place to put down roots. A place where your kids can grow up, make memories, and one day come back as adults and still feel the love, comfort and safety they felt as children.

I know that isn’t possible for everyone. But if you have the opportunity to create that for your family, do it.

There’s nothing like having a place in this world that will always feel like home. ♥️
