⛈️ Storm Rolling Into Coastal Delaware

For those of you who aren’t currently here at the beach, here’s a look at the first part of the storm rolling into our area. Thank you to Jennifer Schwendtner for the camera work tonight around 6PM in Bethany Beach.

We know a lot of homeowners, visitors, and seasonal residents follow these groups from out of town, so we figured we’d share a quick video of what things are looking like locally.

The weather can certainly change quickly along the coast! 🌧️💨

⚡🚨 WHAT’S WRONG WITH THIS PICTURE?

While working with interconnected smoke detectors, we came across an electrical connection that needed attention.

The wire nut wasn't properly secured onto the wires, leaving the connection loose.

It may look like a small detail, but when you're dealing with the wiring that supplies and interconnects your home's smoke alarms, secure electrical connections matter.

Loose or improperly made connections can potentially cause:

⚡ Intermittent power
🚨 Smoke alarms that don't operate or interconnect properly
🔌 Loss of connection
🔥 Electrical safety concerns

This is also why we don't just swap out a smoke detector and immediately move on. When something doesn't look right, we take the time to investigate, test, document, and make sure the homeowner knows what we found.

Your smoke detectors are an important part of your home's safety system — the wiring behind them matters too.

⚠️ Electrical work should be performed by someone qualified and in accordance with applicable electrical requirements. If we uncover an issue outside the scope of our services, we'll recommend the appropriate licensed professional.

🔵 Can You Stop Watching It? 😂

Sometimes you come across something that is just oddly satisfying to watch…

During our travels around the Lake Placid area, we found this ball working its way through a maze — and of course, we had to stop and watch! 👀

Left ➡️ Right ➡️ Around the corner ➡️ Keep going…

There’s something strangely mesmerizing about watching it find its way through!

And maybe there’s a little life lesson in there too — sometimes the path isn't straight, but you just keep moving until you get where you're going. 🌲🏔️

🚨 PROPERTY TENDERS HOME SAFETY PSA: Know Before You Hit That Switch!

Did you know some smoke alarms have a permanent deactivation or “kill” switch?

⚠️ This is NOT a reset button.

On smoke alarms designed with this feature, activating the permanent deactivation switch disconnects the alarm's internal battery. Once activated, the alarm is permanently disabled and cannot be reused.

That means even if the smoke alarm is relatively new, once it has been permanently deactivated, it needs to be replaced immediately.

Before trying to stop a chirping smoke alarm:

🔥 Check the alarm's instructions and labels.
🔋 Determine whether the battery needs replacement or the unit has a sealed battery.
📅 Check the manufacture/replace-by date.
⚠️ Don't activate a permanent deactivation switch unless you're actually retiring the alarm.

A chirping smoke alarm can be frustrating, but permanently disabling it can leave an area of your home without working fire protection.
