IRS Reveals New Tax Brackets

What to Expect When It Comes to Your 2026 Taxes The IRS just released the new income tax brackets and standard deductions for 2026 and while "tax brackets" might sound complicated, the changes are actually good news for most taxpayers.
Because of inflation, the IRS adjusts the income thresholds for each bracket every year. This prevents something called "bracket creep," which can push you into a higher tax rate even if your real income has not increased. In simple terms, you will need to earn more before paying a higher percentage in taxes.

Here is the bottom line for 2026:
The standard deduction will increase to $32,200 for married couples filing jointly and $16,100 for single filers.

Those 65 and older may also qualify for an additional deduction of up to $6,000.
The tax brackets themselves will shift upward, meaning many people will owe a bit less in federal tax compared to previous years.

Even small changes like this can make a noticeable difference in take-home pay and tax refunds. It is a good time to revisit your withholdings or talk to a tax professional to see how the new brackets may affect you.
