Holy cow! In regards to the NAR settlement, you’d think we were trying to decipher ancient hieroglyphics with all the changes to forms, agreements, and addendums regarding whether a seller is graciously handing over a concession to cover a buyer's agent’s compensation. Mind you, we can’t call it a commission (that's a no-no!), because only the concession gets the green light for that labeling. Then there's the seller's broker choosing to shower some of their own compensation on the buyer's agent, the buyer sweetly agreeing to foot the bill for their agent, and let’s not forget the buyer requesting that their agent's pay comes from the seller's wallet in their offer. It's like a game of legal Twister over here!
Yes, I know that’s a wonderfully convoluted run-on sentence. I crafted it that way on purpose—it’s a tribute to the chaos! But believe me, no matter how it looks on paper, the real-life situation is a mind-boggling 1,000 times more complicated.
In short, this settlement is all about achieving clarity. The unfortunate twist? Defining this clarity in legalese only seems to add more layers to the chaos, like a legal parfait that no one asked for!
If a seller or buyer ever wonders what their agent is worth……. 😫
