The City of Bedford received notification today, July 24, that a mosquito trapped along the 2800 block of Brasher Lane tested positive for West Nile Virus.

Since this is the second consecutive week this trap location has received a positive test, the City’s contractor for adulticide treatment, Municipal Mosquito, will conduct ground spraying in public spaces and channels within a quarter-mile radius of this area. This is in accordance with the City’s Mosquito Management Plan.

Application dates are still being determined at this time; this post will be updated when those dates are confirmed.

When it comes to protecting yourself and your family from mosquitoes, always remember the "Four D's,” as follows:

🦟 Dusk and dawn are the times of day you should try to stay indoors. This is when mosquitoes are most active and are considered major feeding times.
🦟 Dress in long sleeves and pants when you are outside. For extra protection, you may want to spray thin clothing with repellent.
🦟 DEET is an effective EPA-registered active ingredient to look for in your insect repellent. Always wear repellent when outdoors and choose products that contain up to 20 percent DEET.
🦟 Drain standing water in your backyard and neighborhood - old tires, flowerpots, and clogged rain gutters. These are mosquito-breeding sites.

Mosquitoes are most active during dusk and dawn, so take extra precaution during those times. You can also contact the Public Works Department at 817-952-2200 for more information about West Nile Virus or visit the City’s webpage for details on mosquito control at www.bedfordtx.gov/mosquitocontrol.

This young man, 14 year old, Reese will fix the Well that is located on Bedford Road near the Silver Winery.

He needs 1200.00 to complete this task, his Eagle project. Reese has been a Scout since he was 7 years old.

There will be a Car Wash on Saturday, May 25th at the O'Reilly's Auto Parts in Hurst, 801 W Pipeline, to raise funds.
