Granite gets a bad rap.

Many people say, "don't choose granite because it's porous". "It's high maintenance". "You have to seal it".

Granite does have to be sealed every 5-10 years, depending on how you treat it. But, once it's sealed, it's virtually unporous. The sealing process is also not that involved and you can do it yourself.

Worth noting: it's slightly less expensive than quartz.

And, if you're wanting a more natural stone look, you should rethink granite.

One of my clients didn't consider granite, based on its reputation, until their builder, who's had granite for 20+ years, talked about it. And then we looked at 4 different showrooms. They like the natural stone look and texture, and the fact that they can carry it over into the fireplace.

If you're building, it's worth looking into as an option.
