Broadway up close. The DMA after dark. Hogwarts with a live orchestra. A little intermission in the garden. And looking ahead, one of my all-time favorite movies, The Sound of Music, arrives onstage next week.

I don’t usually begin a featured listing with a story about myself, but this one is different.

I lived on Haynie Avenue from the summer of 1992 through the summer of 1993, during my sophomore year at SMU. Oh the fun we had! And my sister lived there before me. This particular home wasn’t here then, of course, but the location is one I know like the back of my hand. And the neighborhood is still part of my daily life.

From this stretch of Haynie, you can walk to SMU and Snider Plaza, with Centennial Park just down the street. University Park Elementary and Highland Park High School are in opposite directions, yet remarkably close. It is one of those rare University Park locations where daily life can extend well beyond your own front door.

The home itself is beautifully layered—traditional architecture, warm interiors, generous gathering spaces, and an outdoor living area that feels designed to be used.

But for me, the real luxury is still the location. I know what it feels like to live here.

Dallas, Texas… Summer may be winding down, but the temperatures are still keeping things hot.

This week’s edit moves from a lantern-filled sanctuary at White Rock Lake to photography rooted in Mexican tradition, a hyperlocal film festival in the Arts District, and an exhibition opening in the Design District where art, science, and design converge. And everything is indoors where the AC will keep you cool. 😎

Consider this a weekend for lingering a little longer.

Charreria by Brent Kollock (fellow SMU alum)

Before the boots, buckles, and horses became shorthand for Western style, they carried histories of identity, skill, family, and tradition.

Opening Saturday at the Latino Cultural Center, photographer Brent Kollock’s Charreria looks closely at Mexico’s equestrian tradition through portraits, personal narratives, and years of observation.

Kollock—an SMU graduate who now lives in Nayarit, Mexico—approaches charrería as both spectacle and living culture.

Go early for his 5 PM artist lecture, then stay for the opening reception.

Longing: Light & Sound Interactive Exhibition

This is the one we saved for this weekend—and opening night is exactly when I’d go.

At the Bath House Cultural Center, Longing transforms two enduring symbols of Vietnamese culture—the nón lá and the Mid-Autumn lantern—into an immersive landscape of shimmering light and sound.

As you move through the installation, gentle melodies and light respond in turn, making the viewer part of the work itself.

Go Saturday night for the opening reception, then step outside to White Rock Lake after dark.

Sometimes the setting is part of the art.

You know Picasso on canvas. This weekend, meet Picasso in clay.

The Meadows Museum opens Picasso Beyond the Canvas on Sunday, bringing together 18 ceramic works created between 1953 and 1963—at the height of Picasso’s experimentation with clay.

It’s a smaller, more intimate look at an artist we think we know well, revealing how familiar faces, figures and forms took on an entirely different character when Picasso moved beyond paint and picked up clay. Many of the works are being exhibited together publicly for the first time.

Another major Dallas employer has officially moved Uptown.

After more than three decades downtown, Deloitte has completed its move to 23Springs at Maple + Cedar Springs.
But the interesting part isn’t really Deloitte. It’s the pattern.

Dallas’ premium office market is beginning to look a lot like its luxury residential market: the best product in the best locations is separating from everything else.

New, amenity-rich office developments are attracting major employers—and increasingly concentrating where Dallas works, dines and spends time along a corridor moving north from Downtown through Uptown and beyond.

And eventually, office decisions become residential decisions.
