🌴🚙 TWO TICKETS TO PARADISE — A LITTLE INSIDER TIP FOR YOUR ST. JOHN ADVENTURE! 🚙🌴

Sometimes it’s the little things our guests tell us that remind us just how important our job as your island hosts really is! ❤️

We recently had some wonderful guests check out of Two Tickets to Paradise Cottage, and during our conversation, they mentioned a few things they wished they had known BEFORE taking the car barge over to St. John for the day.

And we thought… you know what? These are exactly the kinds of things we should be sharing with our future guests!

So, let’s talk about taking your Jeep over to beautiful St. John! 🏝️

🚙 TIP #1 — BRING SOME CASH!

The car barge is approximately $80 round-trip, plus a small port fee. We recommend bringing cash, although payment options may vary by operator.

🎟️ TIP #2 — DON’T LOSE THAT RECEIPT!

If you purchase a round-trip ticket, hang on to it! You’ll need it for your return trip. And here’s something important: Your return ticket is valid with the SAME ferry company you traveled over with. Different barges operate on different schedules, so make sure you know which company you’re riding with!

⏰ TIP #3 — WATCH THE CLOCK!

Especially during peak season! St. John is a popular place, and those barges can get busy. Arrive early, check your return schedule, and give yourself plenty of time. You don’t want to be watching your ride back to St. Thomas sail away without you! 😂

📵 TIP #4 — YOUR PHONE MIGHT TAKE AN ISLAND VACATION TOO!

Cell service can be spotty in parts of St. John, especially when you’re exploring those beautiful winding roads.

Download an offline map or screenshot your directions before heading out.

🏝️☀️ BEACH DAY, ANYONE? Let’s Talk Secret Harbour! 🌊🍹

Here at Two Tickets to Paradise Cottage, we love sharing our favorite island adventures with you! And sometimes that means heading out to explore a beach we don’t talk about nearly enough!

🌴 Today, we’re taking you to SECRET HARBOUR! 🌴

We recently spent a day checking out this little slice of paradise so we could bring you the inside scoop. And friends, let us tell you… THIS BEACH IS BEAUTIFUL! 😍

But we learned a few things that will make your beach day even better!

🚙 TIP #1: THE EARLY BIRD GETS THE PARKING SPOT!

Here’s the biggest secret about Secret Harbour. There are only THREE designated public beach parking spots! Yes, THREE! So our advice? Get there EARLY! Trust us, this is one beach worth setting your alarm for!

🌴 TIP #2: HEAD LEFT FOR THE PERFECT BEACH SPOT!

Once you hit the sand, make your way all the way over to the LEFT with your beach chairs. You’ll find some wonderful shade trees where you can settle in, relax, and spend the day enjoying those gorgeous turquoise waters and beautiful light-colored sand.

There’s just something about sitting under a shade tree, listening to the gentle waves, and remembering that you’re on ISLAND TIME! 💙

🍳 TIP #3: BREAKFAST ON THE BEACH!

There is a restaurant right there at Secret Harbour where you can enjoy breakfast or lunch!

Or do what we did! We packed breakfast to go, headed out early, claimed our shady little spot, and enjoyed breakfast with one heck of a Caribbean view!

🍕🍔 TIP #4: DON’T SKIP LUNCH OR THE FROZEN DRINKS! 🍹

When lunchtime rolls around, head over to the beach bar and restaurant!

We’re talking pizza, burgers, a delicious black bean hummus, and plenty of tasty choices to satisfy that beach-day appetite.

And can we talk about the FROZEN DRINKS?! 😋🍹

Highly recommend treating yourself to something cold, tropical, and delicious. After all, you’re on vacation!

🌊 TIP #5: DO ABSOLUTELY NOTHING!

Seriously! Some beach days are meant for exploring, and others are meant for finding that perfect shady spot, dipping your toes in the Caribbean Sea, enjoying a good lunch, and letting the hours drift by.

Secret Harbour is one of those beaches. ❤️

🇻🇮 Have you ever walked through downtown Charlotte Amalie and wondered what this beautiful white building — and that bright red little guard box — is?

This is Government House, one of the most historic buildings in St. Thomas.

Located on Government Hill, Government House dates back to the Danish colonial era in the 1800s and has been part of island government life for generations. Long before the Virgin Islands became part of the United States in 1917, this building stood at the center of government here in Charlotte Amalie.

And that little red structure out front? ❤️

It’s a Danish-style sentry box, a reminder of St. Thomas’ Danish history and the guards who once stood watch here.

The building itself is beautiful — white exterior, sweeping galleries, ornate ironwork and those gorgeous steps — but knowing the history behind it makes stopping to see it even more special.

One of our favorite things about St. Thomas is that there is history tucked around almost every corner. Sometimes you can be headed into town to shop, grab lunch or explore Main Street and suddenly realize you’re standing in front of something that has been part of island life for more than 150 years.

🌴 Two Tickets Tip:
When you spend a day exploring Charlotte Amalie, slow down a little. Walk Government Hill, take in the architecture, visit the historic sites and look for those small details that tell the story of the island.

I’m always telling you about the beaches to explore, the restaurants to try, the hidden spots to find and all the incredible things there are to do around St. Thomas.

But can we talk about the cottage itself for a minute? ❤️

Someone once described Two Tickets to Paradise Cottage as what would happen if Jimmy Buffett and Swiss Family Robinson got together… and honestly, that may be one of my favorite descriptions ever. 😂🌺

It has that true island feel. A little quirky. A little tropical. Completely relaxing. The kind of place where you wake up and immediately remember, Yep… I’m in paradise.

There’s just something about welcoming new friends to our little slice of island heaven, especially when there’s a birthday to celebrate!

✈️🌴 TWO TICKETS TRAVEL TIP: Shop Smart & Give Yourself Time! 🌴✈️

Planning your trip to St. Thomas? Before you book that flight, spend a little time comparing your options.

One of our favorite tips is to use tools like Google Flights and Hopper to watch airfare. If your travel dates are flexible, search different days and weeks—you may be surprised how much the price can change just by moving your trip a day or two.

You can also track the flights you’re interested in so you can keep an eye on price changes while you’re deciding when to book. 💰✈️

But here’s another travel tip that we REALLY want our guests to remember:

⏰ Give yourself enough time for your connection!

That one-hour connection might look great when you’re booking, but real-life travel doesn’t always cooperate.

Your first flight could leave late.
Your arriving and departing gates could be in completely different terminals.
You may have to take a train or shuttle between concourses.
And large airports like Atlanta, Charlotte and Miami can take some time to navigate.

We have seen it happen way too many times—someone’s first flight is delayed just enough that they miss their connecting flight to paradise.

🌴 Our advice? Whenever possible, give yourself MORE than an hour between flights. We would much rather have you grab a coffee, find your gate and relax for a little while than start your vacation sprinting through an airport hoping the door is still open. 😂

A little planning before your trip can make the journey to St. Thomas so much easier.

🌴🍹 WHERE ARE MY BEACH BAR PEOPLE? 🎶🌊

There’s just something about St. Thomas that makes a cold drink taste better when your feet are in the sand and there’s live island music playing in the background. ❤️

And if a great beach bar is on your vacation wish list, we have plenty of fun places to point you toward!

🎶 Sapphire Beach Bar — beautiful East End views, drinks right by the water, Sunday live music and some pretty fun beach parties throughout the year.

🌴 Iggies at Bolongo Bay — one of those classic St. Thomas beach-bar experiences. Toes in the sand, cocktails, food and plenty of live entertainment. And you never know who will stop in

🌊 The Shack at Hull Bay — one of our favorite areas when you want a little more of that laid-back, local Northside vibe. Grab something to eat, have a drink and catch live music on the right night. Tuesday night is Bingo Night.

⛴️ Dinghy’s on Honeymoon Beach, Water Island — now THIS makes a fun vacation day. Take the ferry over, spend the day on Honeymoon Beach, grab lunch and a frozen drink and enjoy one of those “Yep…we’re definitely in the Caribbean” afternoons.
