The option period is one of the most valuable protections a Texas buyer has and one of the most misunderstood.
It’s not just a window to think things over. It’s your window to get the home inspected, review what the inspector finds, and request any necessary repairs from the seller, all before it ends. That’s the whole point.
Your agent should be moving quickly from day one to get everything done and negotiated while you still have the unrestricted right to walk away.
Once the option period expires, that right is gone. You’re committed, and backing out without a valid contract reason puts your earnest money at risk.
The slides break down exactly what the option period covers and what changes once it’s over. Save this if you’re buying in Texas, or send it to someone who is.
