Our single family homes average $2,200 per month rent. A 30 year mortgage (6.5%) for a $300,000 home with 5% down, $500 monthly taxes and $200 insurance is over $2,600 in monthly payment. If you add in PMI, maintenance/repairs you are at $3,000 a month.
