Dallas County Homestead Exemption Filing
As many have heard the Dallas Central Appraisal District computers have been hacked and there is very limited information available. If you purchased a home this year, you can file your homestead exemption in 2022, and not have to wait till 2023. Because the site has been hacked, you cannot get the form on their site. You will need to go in person and pick up the form and either bring it back or mail it to them.
I did some research and you can get a form on the comptroller's website below.
https://comptroller.texas.gov/taxes/property-tax/exemptions/
Once you are there, scroll down and select Form 50-114, Application for Residence Homestead Exemption
I called the appraisal district and this is an acceptable form as of this week 12/12/2022. You will have to take it back to them. You may use a trackable mail service of your choosing to ensure it is received. I also asked when their site would be back up, and they don't have a date. I thought this would be helpful for anyone who is needing to file their homestead exemption. Good Luck.
Texas has several exemptions from local property tax for which taxpayers may be eligible. Find out who qualifies.
