Preparing to sell soon? Avoid strong smells. The smell of your home can have a lasting impression on buyers. Pets, smoke, food, and garbage smells may leave a negative impact on potential buyers. Sellers should address the cause of negative smells and eliminate the issue. Even strong personal fragrances or air fresheners may cause irritation or not be tolerable for buyers with allergies or sensitivities. Strong desirable fragrances could be perceived as the seller trying to cover up odors in the home, failing to address odors or smells can cause speculation in buyers. Prior to listing, make sure the home has fresh air and a neutral smell.
