Today, we honor Juneteenth — a day of reflection, remembrance and celebration of freedom, resilience and the enduring contributions of Black Americans to our communities and our country. At Halperin Park, we recognize the importance of preserving and sharing the stories, history and culture that continue to shape Oak Cliff and beyond.
Join us tomorrow, Saturday, June 20, from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. for Oak Cliff Juneteenth Festival, a FREE community celebration presented by For Oak Cliff and Halperin Park in partnership with the Tenth Street Residential Association, Dallas Parks & Recreation, Oak Cliff Veggie Project and Kinkofa. Enjoy a day filled with:
• Live music and entertainment, including a reading of the Story of Juneteenth by local youth, performances by The Black Canvas Band, a marching band and more
• Black-owned vendors and food offerings
• Community spotlights featuring local organizations and partners
• Oak Cliff Veggie Project's farmers market and cooking demonstration
• Trolley tours of the historic Tenth Street District
• The Little Mr. & Miss Juneteenth Contest celebrating youth leadership, history and talent
• Giveaways of Opal Lee’s book, “Juneteenth: A Children’s Story”
• Interactive games, line dancing, community karaoke, family-friendly activities and more
Together, we'll honor the legacy of Juneteenth while celebrating the people, organizations and stories that continue to strengthen our community. Learn more at halperinpark.org/events.
