Real estate is a tough industry. The rewards are incredible, but many people never see what happens behind the scenes.
When a transaction closes successfully, clients celebrate the next chapter of their lives. What they often don’t see are the title issues, contract negotiations, unexpected delays, last-minute problems, and countless phone calls that happen along the way. As Realtors, we work hard to make a complicated process feel effortless because that’s what professionals do.
But being a business owner comes with sacrifices.
Many of you remember the beautiful French Country home I’ve been talking about. What you may not know is that while navigating what I would call a challenging transaction, I received the phone call no one wants to get.
My beloved grandfather in Germany wasn’t doing well, and his time was very limited.
Without hesitation, I traveled to Germany to be with my family during those final days. Yet life doesn’t simply stop. I still had clients depending on me, a business to run, bills to pay, and a family here in the US relying on me as well.
Some will say, “Family first. Work can wait.”
And while I understand that perspective, the reality of being a business owner is that you don’t just walk away from your responsibilities. You continue showing up. You answer calls, solve problems, and keep moving forward, even while your heart is somewhere else.
Today, I’m grateful to celebrate two things.
First, the successful closing of this home for wonderful client who showed incredible patience and trust throughout the process.
Second, and far more importantly, the life of the greatest man I’ve ever known.
My grandfather lived an extraordinary 91 years. He accomplished so much, but what I’ll remember most are the lessons he taught me—about hard work, integrity, perseverance, and how to build a meaningful life. The values that guide me today, both personally and professionally, came from him.
It’s been three months since we said goodbye. Between family, work, and life’s responsibilities, I haven’t found the right words until now. But with this chapter officially closed, it feels like the right time to honor the man who helped shape so much of who I am.
I will forever be grateful for the time I had with him and proud to carry those lessons forward.
This closing is dedicated to you, Opa.
Thank you for everything
