My dad has gone to heaven. ✝️
Joe Paul Foor passed away on
Jan. 17, after a long battle with
Alzheimer’s. He was 87. Joe grew
up in Quinton, Oklahoma, and
earned a bachelor’s degree in phi-
losophy from the University of
Oklahoma. He then moved to
Dallas, where he received a Master
of Theology degree from South-
ern Methodist University’s Perkins
School of Theology.
Upon graduating from Perkins,
Joe was selected to serve as Chap-
lain and Assistant Professor of Phi-
losophy and Religion at South-
western University in Georgetown,
Texas, a role he held from 1965
to 1968. He conducted weekly
chapel services for students and
faculty, taught courses in abnor-
mal psychology, philosophy, and
religion, and spent countless hours
counseling members of the univer-
sity community.
In 1969, Joe made a dramatic
career change and entered the
financial services industry. He
joined the Merrill Lynch securi-
ties training program in New York
City, and worked as an Account
Executive in the Oklahoma City
office from 1969 to 1976. He later
worked for E.F. Hutton and Blyth
Eastman Dillon & Co. before
becoming a partner in the regional
investment banking firm Adams,
James & Foor, Inc.
Joe later returned to teaching
and advising, serving as adjunct
faculty at Brookhaven College,
where he taught philosophy and
ethics, and as a financial consul-
tant to First Dallas Securities and
Hodges Management Company.
He also pursued entrepreneurial
ventures, including early work in
the solar energy industry – well
ahead of its time. In his later years,
Joe returned to ministry, serving as
pastor of Blue Mound Church in
Denton, Texas.
Joe’s life was filled with memora-
ble stories and pursuits. He began
preaching at the age of 19, built
his own Bradley GT automobile,
invented a board game about stock
options and wrote several unpub-
lished screenplays. He was known
for his generosity, humor, and love
for his family, especially his three
grandkids.
Joe was preceded in death by his
wife of 62 years, Anne Foor. He is
survived by his daughters, Cindy
Foor and Marti Voorheis; his son-
in-law, Paul Voorheis; and his
grandchildren, Paul Voorheis Jr.
and Grace Voorheis of New York
City, and Luke Voorheis of Dallas.
A memorial service will be held
on Feb. 6 at 10:00 a.m. in Cox
Chapel at Highland Park United
Methodist Church in Dallas,
Texas. In lieu of flowers, memorial
gifts may be made to the “Friday
Friends” respite program for care-
givers. (Checks should be made
