Should their medical or behavioral status change, their urgency and timeline for placement may also change. Please email [email protected] if your rescue can pull or if you can foster through rescue. Juju and her two kittens were found as strays on 9/8. During their intake exam, they were noted to have live fleas. Her and her babies did not find rescue or foster placement, so unfortunately they have spent the last few weeks in the shelter nursery. They have now been exposed to panleukopenia as another litter in the same room tested positive for panleuk. While they are not showing symptoms of panleuk, Juju has nasal discharge, and has been sneezing and open mouth breathing. She has been treated with azithromycin since 9/19, but her upper respiratory infection has not improved. Her clinical signs appear to be worsening - she is now hypersalivating due to possible oral ulceration. Her kittens are also not improving since starting treatment. Supportive care has been given, including fluids and pain medication for Juju's mouth, and she has been started on a second course of azithromycin.
Update: Unfortunately one of Juju’s kittens Google rapidly declined today and had to be humanely euthanized. They were all tested for panleuk and each test came back negative.
Juju and her kittens urgently need to leave with a foster or rescue partner who can perform further supportive care, and give them a calm and quiet place to decompress and recover.
