Copied & shared in case we do get big hail tonight! Stay safe, friends!

Hey local friends. If you're in the path of this storm, I want to share a few things we learned during the Wylie hail storm that you can do to get ready incase we actually get baseball size hail.

1. If you have kids in carseats, and don't have a garage, bring the seats inside, away from windows. (I met a family who had to transport their kids to the hotel without carseats because theirs were covered in glass)

2. Put tennis shoes for each family member in your windowless "safe room" with you. (We had to carry our kids to the car because our house was covered in glass)

3. Get a copy of your homeowner's insurance to keep in your safe room too. They should be your first call if your house is damaged. They can send someone to tarp your roof and will book you a hotel if your house is not habitable.

4. If you have water damage, insist on having a company come and dry your house out as soon as possible. It is so so important to prevent mold. (One of our neighbors was told this was not necessary. 7 months after the storm they were still having to tear down walls because the mold spread everywhere. Ours took nearly a week to dry out, but we had zero mold problems)

5. Most importantly, stay safe. Stay away from windows. All the stuff can be replaced. There is no reason to risk your safety. (We had glass from our back windows fly a good 20 feet through the living room and kitchen and land on the kitchen counters. I can't even imagine what would have happened if we were standing in there when it happened)
