Fort Myers Beach just brought back its Fourth of July fireworks for the first time since Hurricane Ian.

And here’s what I think is the real story:

The Town cut fireworks from the budget last year. So local businesses raised $129,000 themselves and made it happen anyway.

Parade at 10 AM on Estero Blvd.
Veterans ceremony at 4 PM at Bayside Park.
Fireworks at ~9 PM off the pier.

That’s not a PR move. That’s a community deciding it’s done waiting.

I get asked a lot whether Fort Myers Beach is „worth it“ right now - whether it’s too soon to buy, too uncertain, too much going on with recovery.

Honestly? I think moments like this tell you more than any market report can.

New construction is happening on almost every block. The pier rebuild is in permitting. Restaurants are reopening in brand-new buildings. And now this.

It’s not the same island it was before Ian. But it’s coming back - and in a lot of ways, stronger.

Happiness. It’s a huge word.

For me and my husband, it meant not waiting for our dreams to happen someday, but making the decision to move to Southwest Florida and create the life we wanted.

11 years later, I can honestly say we don’t regret a single day.

Of course, the beaches are beautiful. The sunsets are incredible. But what changed everything for us was something much deeper. Life feels a little less rushed here. More time outdoors. More sunshine. More opportunities to enjoy the things that truly matter.

When we first arrived from Germany, we immediately felt welcomed by our community. It didn’t take long before Southwest Florida felt like home.

That’s one of the reasons I love helping others make the same move today. I know the excitement, the questions, the uncertainty, and the opportunities that come with starting a new chapter.

❌ Myth 1: „Florida is only for retirees.“
✅ Truth: Southwest Florida is full of young families, remote workers, business owners, and active adults. The demographics have changed dramatically over the last decade.

❌ Myth 2: „Hurricanes make it too risky.“
✅ Truth: The right location, modern construction standards, and proper insurance make a huge difference. Many of my buyers actually feel more comfortable here than in areas prone to tornadoes, wildfires, or earthquakes.

❌ Myth 3: „It’s too expensive now.“
✅ Truth: Compared to California, New York, New Jersey, or even parts of Europe, Southwest Florida still offers incredible value — and don’t forget, Florida has no state income tax.

❌ Myth 4: „You have to visit before you buy.“
✅ Truth: I’ve helped buyers relocate from Germany, Canada, and all across the U.S. without ever stepping foot in Florida before closing.

❌ Myth 5: „It’s too hot to live there.“
✅ Truth: The winters are absolutely amazing. Sunshine, outdoor dining, beach walks in January... and yes, you really do adapt to the summer heat. 😄

As someone who moved from Germany to Florida over 11 years ago, I believed a few of these myths myself before making the move. Looking back, I wish I had known sooner what life here is actually like.

The biggest surprise? It wasn’t the weather, the beaches, or the palm trees. It was how much my overall quality of life changed.

Babcock Ranch just unveiled their newest gated luxury premium single-family homes community: Sawgrass Lakes!

Sales for phase one will start this year in fall.

Happiness. It’s such a big word.

What does happiness mean to you?

For my husband and me, it meant not waiting for “someday” but taking action and making the move to Southwest Florida 11 years ago.

Honestly, we haven’t regretted a single day.

From the moment we arrived, we felt welcomed. We met wonderful people, found support in our neighborhood, and slowly built a life that felt right for us.

Looking back, I’m so grateful we didn’t keep putting our dream on hold. Life is so much better in Florida, and no longer cold weather and grey clouds hanging around for almost 6 months (yes, that’s what North Germany looks like from October through April).

If moving to Florida is something you’ve been thinking about, don’t wait forever for the perfect moment. Time has a way of passing faster than we expect, and one day you may realize that the opportunity you kept postponing never happened.

Sometimes the biggest regret isn’t making the wrong decision. It’s never making the move at all.

☀️ 11 years later, I’m still grateful we took that leap.
