We are deeply saddened by the tragic loss of life that occurred in Davenport. Our hearts are with everyone who was affected, including those who witnessed this heartbreaking event and our staff who are supporting them through it.

We are also aware of statements being shared on social media alleging that Humility Homes & Services turned this individual away from shelter and that this led to his death. That is not an accurate representation of what occurred.

We understand that people have questions and that emotions are understandably high. At the same time, we have a responsibility to protect the privacy of the people who participate in our programs, which means we cannot discuss an individual’s circumstances or interactions with our organization publicly.

What we can share is who we are and what we stand for. Humility Homes & Services exists because we believe there should be a home for every person. Every day, our staff work alongside people experiencing homelessness to provide shelter, support, resources and pathways toward stability.

We know that words matter, especially when a tragedy has occurred. We ask our community to please avoid sharing information about this situation that has not been verified. If you have questions or concerns about our services, we welcome you to reach out to us directly. We would much rather have a conversation than see assumptions about a deeply painful situation continue to spread online.

Our focus right now is on caring for our staff, supporting the people who participate in our programs, and extending compassion to everyone impacted by this loss.

Today, we remember.

On September 11, we pause to honor the lives lost, the heroes who answered the call, and the resilience that carried our nation through one of its darkest days.

The impact of 9/11 extended far beyond that day. In the years that followed, thousands of men and women answered the call to serve, deploying to conflicts overseas and sacrificing for our country and our freedoms.

At Humility Homes & Services, we are honored to serve veterans, including many who served in the wars that followed the events of September 11, 2001. Their courage, dedication, and sacrifice continue to inspire us every day.

As we remember the victims, first responders, service members, veterans, and their families, we reaffirm our commitment to supporting those who have served our nation.
