Last night our building was robbed. We are working with the police to identify the suspect as we have footage of him on our cameras.

Police are letting us know that we were not the only ones targeted and as a locally owned family business, we are saddened to hear this.

It is with our deepest sorrow that we announce the death of our beloved owner John Howes. We all miss him more than words can express and our thoughts and prayers go out to his family.

Below is his obituary:

On February 6, 2023, John Richard Howes passed away peacefully with his loving family by his side. John was born April 10, 1928, in Davenport, Iowa to Frank and Janice Howes.

John graduated from the University Of Iowa College Of Business in 1952 and was president of his class. While at the university he met the love of his life Mary Sue Orsborn. He was active in Phi Kappa Psi and enrolled in the R.O.T.C.. He was studying for his MBA when the Air Force called for duty and sent him to Germany as a lieutenant. He was proud to serve. After his service he came back to Davenport and joined his family business. He and Sue were married on March 6th, 1954. Together they raised five children and had a life full of wonderful adventures. They traveled the world together and made a home full of love and joy. John was successful in making the family’s business his own. He guided it through five generations of success. He remained active working until his death. He was a lifelong learner and persevered through difficult times. He never gave up on a person, idea, or even a bad book! He did give up on drinking in 1967 and was committed to his sobriety the rest of his life.

Sue preceded him in death on May 19th, 2022. Left to honor his memory are his five children: Frank (Mary Lou Burket) Howes, Mary Howes, Tom (Beth) Howes, Nancy (Joe) C**n, and Sarah (Dave) Adelson. In addition, he is also survived by his six grandchildren, John Davis, Steven (Larissa) Adelson, William Davis, Kevin (Maddy Coda) Adelson, Emily (Benjamin) Schmitt and Lauren (Cole Horton) C**n. He is also survived by great grandchild Camden Tumlin-Davis.

Per his wishes cremation rites have been accorded. A celebration of life services will be held at a later date.

UPDATE | 11/30/2022

The individual has been identified as 20-year-old Chandelor Amos. Amos turned himself in to Davenport Police on Wednesday, November 30, 2022 and is charged with Theft 2nd Degree in reference to over ten theft incidents from residences throughout the City of Davenport. These incidents remain under investigation.

ORIGINAL INFORMATION:
Although it appears I’m being very helpful carrying packages for this homeowner, I’m actually stealing from porches. I was last seen in the 2000 block of Eastern Avenue on Saturday afternoon, November 26, 2022, and was seen in the 4400 block of Spring Street on Friday, November 25, 2022.
