An Introduction to Moths (7:30p) and the Moth Night Experience (9pm) are cancelled. Due to flash flooding in her area, our moth researcher and presenter Kathy Barylski, is unable to attend.
There will still be a showing of "The Extraordinary Caterpillar" film at 6pm here at the Visitor Center. We hope we can reschedule another moth night in the future!

"The Extraordinary Caterpillar" by Homegrown National Park | Take a peek into the dazzling world of nature's tiniest and mightiest superheroes in this short film!
7:30 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. (Indoors)
An Introduction to Moths, presented by Kathy Barylski | In Tucker County alone, almost 1,000 species of Lepidoptera (butterflies and moths) have been recorded, with over 90% being moths! There is such a diversity of moths - from tiny metallic moths to the large luna moths. We'll learn about the many moth "families," how to tell the difference from butterflies, and how to attract moths at home or in the field.
9:00 p.m. to 11 p.m. (Outdoors, weather-dependent)
Moth Night Experience | Join us to see a wide variety of moths (and other nocturnal insects) during this moth night! We'll use specialized lighting and sheets to attract these insects to view them. Insects usually start arriving after dusk. We recommend wearing dark-colored clothing with full coverage (long sleeves and pants) to avoid attracting the insects (including biting ones) to yourself. Please also avoid the use of insect repellant. Cameras or phones with macrophotography capability are great for documenting our finds.
