PRESS RELEASE: CITY TO HOST FREE JULY 4 CELEBRATION IN COMMUNITY PARK

June 19, 2023 – The City of Davis will host a free July 4 celebration on Tuesday, July 4, 2023, from 4 p.m. – 10 p.m. at Community Park, located at 203 E. 14th Street in Davis.

The schedule and activities include, but are not limited to:

• 4 p.m.: Snacks and treats available for purchase from local non-profit groups
• 4 p.m. - 8 p.m.: A free game zone coordinated by Discovery Christian Church
• 6:30 p.m.: Live music, coordinated by the Davis Live Music Collective, featuring The Gold Souls at 6:30 p.m. and The Stone Foxes at 8:00 p.m.
• 9:35 p.m.: A 15-minute fireworks show

All attendees to Community Park are encouraged to ride a bike or walk if possible, as vehicle parking will be limited. The off-leash dog area in Community Park will be closed on July 4. Self-serve bike parking will be available in Community Park, however bike parking may get full quickly. Additionally, attendees are encouraged to pack plenty of water, sunscreen and a picnic dinner while supporting local non-profit groups by purchasing snacks and treats at the event.

“We invite our fellow community members to join us at the city’s annual July 4 celebration in Community Park,” said Davis Mayor Will Arnold. “Let us unite in joy and gratitude, create lasting memories and celebrate together what it means to be a community rising above challenges.”

Please note that this display is the only safe and legal use of fireworks that is allowed by the City of Davis. For public safety, a City ordinance prohibits the use or discharge of fireworks or any substances designed for pyrotechnic display. The sale of any type of fireworks within the City of Davis boundaries is also prohibited.

Rolling outages may be occurring in parts of Davis today (September 6) due to the strain on the energy grid. PG&E has increased its staffing levels during the heat emergency so that they are better prepared to respond quickly should any unplanned outages occur.

Tips for During the Flex Alert from 4 p.m. to 9 p.m.:

• Set thermostat at 78 degrees or higher, health permitting: Every degree above 78 represents an appropriately 2% savings on cooling costs.
• Avoid using major appliances.
• Turn off all unnecessary lights.
• Use fans for cooling.
• Unplug unused items.
• Avoid charging electric vehicles.
