As the holidays approach, we’re reminded that many families right here in our community are food insecure — and this is our opportunity to come together and bless them with a “Happy Thanksgiving.” 🧡

This year, Dayton Living is partnering with the Youth and Family Resource Coordinator with the Kettering School District, who will gift all the baskets to families in need identified through our local schools.

🧺✨ Maybe you want to join in with your family, neighbors, co-workers, or church group — whoever it may be, we invite you to unite and fulfill a basket for a Kettering family in need. Together, we can make a big impact!

🌳 Help grow Dayton’s tree canopy! The City is now accepting 2025 Street Tree Planting Requests. Eligible residents can request free street trees for the public right-of-way near their homes.

Is your home built before 1978? You may be eligible for the Lead Safe Ohio Grant Program—offering free repairs to eliminate dangerous lead-based paint hazards. Repairs can include:

Replacing windows and doors
Enclosing siding and soffits
Repairing porches
Other vital lead mitigation measures

Priority goes to low- and moderate-income households, especially those with children under 6, and those earning less than 80% of the Area Median Income (AMI)
Plus—no liens are placed on properties!

Looking for help beyond lead safety? The City of Kettering also offers Air Quality Improvement and Housing Rehabilitation programs to assist with HVAC upgrades, emergency repairs, accessibility modifications, and more.

Spirit Chain is back! The Fairmont-Centerville Football game and Spirit Chain 2025 Competition is September 12! Kettering Backpack as well Special Wish, The Karen Wellington Foundation, and Honor Flight Dayton are all supported by Spirit Chain!

There are several ways to support the Kettering Backpack program through Spirit Chain. These include, ordering spirit shirts, order crush centerville shirts, senior 2026 signs, flocking a friend or family member, or by participating in the Kiwanis Food on the Run 5k on August 30th!
