Happy Naming Day Ormond Beach! β€οΈ
β€οΈ Home Sweet Homeπ‘
Did you know that our beautiful city has only been named "Ormond Beach" since 1950?
142 years ago today, on April 22, 1880, twenty-one qualified electors met in the home of Eliza & Ruth Dix at 178 N. Beach Street to incorporate the town, known as "New Britain" at that time. After much arguing, John Anderson and Charles Bostrom convinced the citizens that the town should be named "Ormond" in honor of the James Ormond family.
Our historically fascinating city-by-the sea did not become Ormond Beach until the name was changed again in April 1950.
