We remember the firefighters who ran toward the flames.
The police officers who answered the call.
The flight crews who never made it home.
The mothers, fathers, husbands, wives, sons, daughters, friends and coworkers whose lives ended that morning.

We remember the courage of ordinary people in extraordinary circumstances.

And we remember what happened afterward — when, in the midst of unimaginable grief, Americans stood together. Strangers helped strangers. Communities gathered. Flags appeared on homes, businesses and street corners across the country.

For a moment, there were no differences bigger than what united us.

Twenty-five years later, an entire generation has grown up knowing September 11 only through photographs, videos and the stories we tell them.

That makes remembering even more important.

Remember their names.
Remember their sacrifice.
Remember their families.
Remember the heroes.
Remember how we came together.

May we never allow the passing of time to lessen the weight of that day or the value of every life that was lost.
