According to SlashNext, the total volume of phishing attacks has increased by a whopping 4,151% since the advent of ChatGPT in 2022.

Phishing is especially common in real estate, where sensitive information is frequently exchanged. Make sure to protect yourself and your transactions by following these steps:

1️⃣ Be Skeptical of Unexpected Emails – Phishing emails often appear to be from a familiar contact. Always double-check email addresses, even if the sender’s name seems recognizable.

2️⃣ Don’t Click on Unverified Links – Hover over links to reveal the actual URL. If it looks suspicious or doesn’t match the sender, avoid clicking it.

3️⃣ Verify Requests for Sensitive Information – Title companies, banks, and other professionals will never ask for sensitive information like passwords or account details over email. When in doubt, call the sender directly to confirm.

4️⃣ Use Multi-Factor Authentication (MFA) – Enabling MFA adds a layer of security that can stop unauthorized users, even if they have your password.

When you close on your home, remember to get a copy of your survey and keep it in a safe place with all your real estate related documents! 🏡

Your final survey shows in detail important information about the property including easements and common areas. A survey is also required for permits for any future construction and is necessary in order to acquire a flood insurance policy.
