π HEAT STREAK ENDS: Three straight days of record-setting heat in Alabama come to an abrupt end Friday. Thursday, Birmingham tied a record high at 90Β° and Anniston tied a record at 88Β°. Birmingham has logged 99 days at 90Β° or higher in 2026 β the seventh-most on record dating to 1895 β but the worst of the heat has passed.
π FINALLY FEELING SOME FALL: Cold-weather lovers, rejoice! Birmingham's last morning low below 50Β° came back on May 4. Temperatures dip into the 40s Saturday and Sunday mornings, ending a 166-day stretch of hot days and muggy nights. Saturday morning is downright chilly, with a north breeze making it feel 5 to 10 degrees colder. The weekend runs below average across the board, with chilly mornings and mild afternoons.
π΅ DROUGHT UPDATE: Thursday's drought monitor showed minor improvements across parts of Alabama after Isaias rainfall. Birmingham, Talladega and Chelsea generally received 3 to 4 inches, with isolated totals near 5 inches, easing drought slightly in Jefferson, St. Clair, Talladega and Clay counties. West Alabama missed out β Tuscaloosa received only about 1 inch, and parts of Tuscaloosa, Greene and Hale counties remain in extreme drought.

π Auburn at Georgia (2:30 p.m. CDT): Crisp and clear, near 68Β° at kickoff, lower 60s by halftime and mid 50s at the final whistle, north-northwest breeze 8β12 mph, rain chance under 5%.
π Troy at Louisiana (4 p.m. CDT): Sunny and dry, near 72Β° at kickoff, lower 60s by halftime and upper 50s at the end, north wind 12β16 mph.
π Mercer at Samford (6 p.m. CDT): Clear and near 63Β° at kickoff, about 50Β° in the fourth quarter and dipping into the 40s shortly afterward, light north wind 6β9 mph. Bring a heavy sweatshirt or jacket.
π WARMING UP... AGAIN: The weekend chill is short-lived. Highs return to the 70s next week, then trend above average later in October. No significant rain is expected over the next week.
