RIP GAIL LINIGER

I’ll never forget meeting Gail (and Dave) in person July 8, 2024. I was honored to attend a reception of agents in their home.

Some news really hits differently when a name has been part of your professional life for more than 30 years.

RE/MAX has lost one of its founders, Gail Liniger.

When we talk about Dave and Gail Liniger and the beginning of RE/MAX, it is easy to forget just how revolutionary their idea was. They challenged an entire industry and created a business model built around giving productive real estate agents greater independence, opportunity and ownership of their businesses.

And Gail was very much a part of building it. Her story was also remarkable personally. She survived a devastating 1983 plane crash and traumatic brain injury. Late last year she suffered a stroke that left her blind, and at the February 2026 R4 convention Dave shared a message from Gail encouraging the RE/MAX network, characteristically, to never give up.

I joined RE/MAX in 1995. For most of my career, the red, white and blue has been more than a logo to me. It represents the company where I grew up professionally, built a career, developed lifelong relationships and eventually became a broker & owner myself.

So there is something especially poignant about Gail’s passing this week.

Only days ago, RE/MAX officially entered an entirely new chapter. I have spent a lot of time lately thinking and talking about our future, and how encouraged I am by what I heard in Nashville (Broker Owner Conf) about where we are going.

Today makes me think just as much about where we came from.

Two entrepreneurs had an idea in 1973 that the real estate industry could work differently. Fifty-three years later, that idea has touched hundreds of thousands of careers, including mine.

That’s a legacy.

I’m grateful for Gail Liniger’s vision, determination and the company she helped build. And I am especially grateful that as RE/MAX begins its next chapter, we get to carry forward some of the entrepreneurial spirit that started it all. I promise I’ll be doing my part.
