Some transactions remind us of our core purpose.
A few months ago the Luther family trusted us with something meaningful — the sale of their family home at 650 Country Manor.
Their mother Karen was a longtime Realtor here in Decatur. Their father Bob built a successful McDonald's operation in Central Illinois and was a fixture in the regional business community.
I first met Bob through the Greater Decatur Chamber of Commerce when I was still in banking — and when I entered real estate thirteen years ago, Karen was one of the first people I crossed paths with in this business. Full circle doesn't begin to cover it.
The family came with real questions — estate sale, repairs, staging, contents, and how to make sure everyone was moving in the same direction. They did — and they worked incredibly hard to make sure this home was truly move-in ready for the next owners, not just presentable. That care showed in every room.
We also worked through some important legal steps early in the process to avoid probate delays on the sale proceeds — making sure the family received their funds cleanly and on time. That kind of behind-the-scenes work matters more than most people realize.
Last week it closed. And for our team it was bittersweet — Barb McElroy was a longtime dear friend of Karen's. This one meant a lot to all of us.
Navigating an estate sale or family transition? We've been through it many times. Call or text — no pressure, just honest guidance.
