In France for a couple of weeks during which I'll get myself familiar with French building code.
Here my first discovery: There is no GFCI in France and here is why:

In Europe, with its 240VAC, the leakage current levels are often higher than with 120VAC and approach the 4-6mA level so its very hard to make GFCI for 240VAC that can tell the difference between collateral leakage and something abnormal. So GFCI level devices would have a high nuisance trip frequency.
