During times of difficulty, we often have more questions than answers. We move this way and that way, to and fro, trying to find out what to do, but why don’t we call on Him?

As a farmer, God speaks to me through the elements – the weather and nature. But mainly He speaks to us through the Bible. Sometimes, we don’t like the answers He gives us, but they are necessary and they lead us in living the abundant life He promises us.

Psalm 91:15 (nlt) says, “When they call on Me, I will answer; I will be with them in trouble. I will rescue and honour them.”

Years ago during a drought when our crops were dying in the fields. My eldest son, Andy, was at university and came home for a few days. When he saw how much strain his mom and dad were taking, he said to us, “Go away for a couple of days and have a rest. I will look after the farm.” And gladly we went.

Early one morning he asked the Lord to please send rain. At midday, he got in the pick-up and drove into the middle of the fields, praying there for rain. Big black clouds appeared and he was dancing around in joy. As the clouds blew over the farm, big drops of rain started to fall. But all of a sudden, a wind came up and the clouds drifted off again. He was so disappointed and drove back to the farm office. His Bible was lying open where he had left it after his quiet time. It was open at Ecclesiastes 11:4, nkjv, “He who observes the wind will not sow, and he who regards the clouds will not reap.” The young man repented to the Lord for looking at the clouds and not the Rainmaker. The next morning, he woke up early to the sound of gentle rain.

Keep your eyes on the Problem-Solver and not the problem.
