Fall Boating Safety Reminder
The Wisconsin DNR urges all boaters to stay safe on the water as temperatures drop and cold water conditions set in.

So far in 2025, 13 boating fatalities have occurred — many involving victims not wearing life jackets.

Top Safety Tips:
• Always wear a properly fitted, U.S. Coast Guard–approved life jacket
• Dress in layers for changing temperatures
• Check weather and water conditions before heading out
• Avoid alcohol — it slows reaction time
• Tell someone your route and return time
• Double-check safety gear (whistle, throw rope, first aid kit, waterproof phone case)

Cold water can turn dangerous in seconds — a life jacket can make all the difference. Stay smart, stay warm, and boat safely this fall.
